Letter: Lawyer’s defense tactic ridiculous
Thursday, May 4, 2000 | 10:12 a.m.
I once heard a comment that some attorneys don't consider defending a client until they study the evidence against their potential client. If the evidence is not very compelling they are more likely to take the case. Interesting. The attorney doesn't care about whether the person is guilty or not, just about getting their client off the hook, as it were. We shouldn't be surprised. That's what they are getting paid for: getting their client off the hook, in any way possible.
In this case, the evidence against Williams is overwhelming and known to many. For her attorney to be so bold and blatant in his defense is a joke. If he truly believes the remark he made, why doesn't he also suggest the makers of the van as responsible, or the gas station owner where she got gas for the van or the highway department workers who made the road?
