Workshop planned for front desk workers
The Nevada Hotel and Motel Association will present "Going the Extra Mile," a one-day service skills seminar for front desk employees 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Orleans hotel-casino, 4500 W. Tropicana Ave.
Sponsored by MasterCard International, "Going the Extra Mile" is designed to increase professionalism among desk employees in the areas of guest service, sales and profitability and employee retention.
Cost for NHMA members is $35 per person and $55 for nonmembers. To make reservations call 878-9272.
RTC sponsoring event for children
The Regional Transportation Commission is celebrating Bike Awareness month in May. In celebration, the RTC is encouraging more commuters to strap on their helmets and try out a new mode of transportation.
To kick off the month, the RTC will be hosting a Bike Roadeo 3-5 p.m. Friday at the Boys and Girls Club, 800 N. Martin Luther King Blvd.
Children will be given the opportunity to test their skills on a bicycle obstacle course, discuss safety issues and enjoy lunch with their friends. For more information call 228-7433.
Free screening scheduled on Saturday
Adults and children who experience breathing problems, such as coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath, can find out if asthma is taking their breath away at a free screening from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday at the West Charleston Library, 6301 W. Charleston Blvd.
Screening includes completing a brief series of questions, taking a special lung function test that involves blowing into a tube, and meeting with a physician to determine if there should be a followup examination and diagnosis. For more information call 822-2444.
Plenty of fun on tap at Sunset Park
The 16th annual craft fair, rib burn-off and car show will take place 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Sunset Park, 2601 E. Sunset Road.
The event will feature quality handmade arts and crafts, live entertainment, 150 hot rods and classic cars on display in the cars, stars and guitars show, and a children's activity and game area.
Admission is $2 for adults; $1 for youth; and children three and under are free.
UNLV coach will speak at banquet
"Rebels with a Cause 2000" is the theme for this year's Salvation Army Salute Banquet to be held at 6:30 p.m. May 12 in the Conference Center Grand Ballroom of the MGM Grand.
The featured speaker will be UNLV head football coach John Robinson. Other individuals and groups will also receive recognition at the dinner.
Tickets are $100 and reservations can be made by calling 870-4430, Ext. 11.
Arts celebration
The Celebration of the Arts festival will be held 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Hills Park in Summerlin. For event information call 255-6645.
