LV woman to film Taiwan documentary

A Las Vegas resident who came to the United States with her family at the age of 4 will be returning to her native Taiwan this month to begin production on a 60-minute documentary on the people and culture of Taiwan.
Producer Jenyng Wu's autobiographic narrative of a second-generation Chinese American's quest to find her roots will be focus of the documentary.
"Many second-generation Chinese Americans who were raised in the United States have little knowledge of the culture and history of their ancestors," Wu said. "And it's not only Chinese Americans (who) can relate. Other ethnic American communities experience the same situation with their children."
KLVX Channel 10 is teaming up the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in San Francisco and the Government Information Office of Taiwan to produce the documentary, which begins production May 15 in Taiwan.
The documentary is a first for the Las Vegas public television station.
For two years Wu has worked independently with KLVX as an associate producer and project coordinator on projects for the Clark County School District. The documentary has been in the planning stages since 1999.
The Las Vegas Chinese community came together to raise funds for the production, which gained attention from the Chinese community in Los Angeles. Together the communities raised more than $20,000 for the project.
The program will be broadcast on KLVX Channel by the end of the year and will be available for distribution and broadcast on public television stations throughout the country. It will also be provided to the Clark County School District.
