Cycling event is benefit for diabetes

The American Diabetes Association will host the seventh annual Tour de Cure Saturday at Bruce Trent Park in Summerlin.

The cycling event is open to riders of all ages and abilities. Three different routes are offered -- 25K, 50K and 100K.

Registration forms are available at any area Sav-on or 7-Eleven or by calling 369-9995.

Learn how to make crafts

Senior Friends is offering an instructional crafts class 9:30 a.m.-noon May 10 at the Green Valley office, 2809 N. Green Valley Parkway.

Phyllis Hall and her team will demonstrate how to turn simple items into beautiful works of art. Refreshments will be served.

Each person is responsible for bringing some supplies. For reservations and a material list, call 434-6500.

Builders sought for benefit auction

Nevada Association for the Handicapped is accepting applications for builders to participate in a benefit featuring custom-designed playhouses.

Playhouse 2000, a live auction and benefit dinner, will be held Oct. 14 at the Mirage. The playhouses will be displayed at area malls before the auction and dinner. Call 870-7050.

Attic sale

The First Congregational Church will hold its 33rd annual Attic Sale 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday at the church, 1200 N. Eastern Ave. Call 642-2220.

Immunizations

Health District immunization clinics are open each week in Southern Nevada. Immunizations are provided without charge to children and young adults under the age of 21 in any of four public health centers and 15 satellite clinics. The following clinics will be open this week, May 3-9:

NORTH LAS VEGAS PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 3262 Civic Center Drive, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

HENDERSON PUBLIC HEALTH CENTER: 129 W. Lake Mead Drive, Building A, Suite 10, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

School helps raise money for family

Community One Federal Credit Union worked with Gibson Middle School to open a bank account to cover expenses incurred from a kidney transplant involving an eighth grade teacher.

Camille Leath, a math teacher at the middle school, traveled to New Orleans last month to donate a kidney to her ailing mother.

The cost for the operation was estimated at more than $565,000, of which the family must pay $200,000.
