Proposed school on hold

A plan to put a school at Ann and Campbell roads has been put on hold, a Clark County School District official said Thursday.
Dusty Dickens, director of the district's zoning and realty department, said the proposed school is on hold because the federal Bureau of Land Management, which owns the land, hasn't yet moved on necessary paperwork to transfer the lease to the school district.
The proposed school sparked opposition from nearby residents, who gathered hundreds of signatures on a petition to stop the project.
The site now is leased at no cost by the city, which before the school district eyed the property had planned a park on the 20 acres. Although the city leased the property, it is within the unincorporated county lines.
Dickens said the school district will withdraw the necessary zoning request from the Wednesday agenda of the Clark County Commission's Zoning Board. But the school district could revisit the issue.
Nita Burrows, who lives across the street from the site, said neighbors will be ready to protest against the school.
