Oct. trial set for Rudin

An October trial date has been set for Margaret Rudin, the woman accused of killing her wealthy husband and burning his body more than five years ago.
District Judge Joseph Bonaventure set the Oct. 30 trial date over the objections of Will Ewing, the Clark County public defender appointed to handle the case.
Ewing had asked for a January trial date, noting the age of the case and the possible difficulty in locating witnesses.
Deputy District Attorney Gary Guymon objected to the delay, saying the longer the case goes on, the harder it will be for the state to prosecute it. He promised Ewing he would provide all of the state's evidence to the defense within the next few days.
Rudin, 56, is charged with killing her husband, Ron Rudin, while he lay in bed Dec. 18, 1994. Rudin reported him missing and a month later, a fisherman discovered his burned, bullet-ridden and decapitated body near Lake Mohave in Southern Nevada.
Rudin was indicted in 1997 but managed to elude authorities until November. She was arrested in Revere, Mass., after being the subject of an "America's Most Wanted" segment.
She is being held in jail with no bond.
