AIKEN, S.C. -- An Aiken County mother who claimed that video poker establishments took advantage of her son's gambling addiction has settled her lawsuit.
Mary Baxley had sued a dozen video gambling businesses in Aiken County, hoping to recover as much as $150,000 in losses.
Baxley said her son, Kerry, was an impulsive gambling addict and the businesses should have known that before cashing his checks to use in the machines.
Ten of the businesses already had settled.
The final two businesses, Golden Pantry No. 65 and Wise Inc., which owns Tons of Fun Video, settled "for nominal amounts" rather than go to the expense of a trial, said Kevin Little, representing Golden Pantry.
The amount of the settlements was not released.
In a pretrial deposition, Kerry Baxley said he played the machines constantly.
