Nellis airman killed on range

Nellis Air Force Base officials remained tight-lipped early today about an accident Wednesday that killed one airman and injured another person at the Nellis Range.

In a terse news release issued Wednesday, the base described the dead person as an "active duty military member." The news release said the other person was "slightly injured."

Nellis officials gave no details about the accident, other than saying it was "a ground accident," as opposed to an airplane or helicopter crash, which in the past have taken serious tolls on Nellis personnel and others.

Nellis officials early today said a news release with more details about Wednesday's accident was forthcoming.

The names of the person killed and injured individual were withheld pending notification of relatives, officials said.
