Road rage’ suspect sentenced to probation

Wednesday, March 29, 2000 | 11:33 a.m.

A 24-year-old woman charged in the road-rage death of a motorcycle rider trapped between two tractor-trailers was placed on probation Tuesday.

District Judge Lee Gates placed Alexis Bodkin on three years probation and ordered her to serve 800 hours of community service in connection with the Jan. 28, 1999, death of Scott Wray, a 30-year-old California resident.

According to police, two tractor-trailers were traveling north of Jean on Interstate 15 when one attempted to pass the other and couldn't get up enough power to do so. The trucks traveled side-by-side for several miles, causing irritated drivers to back up behind them.

Several of the drivers, including Bodkin, passed the trucks on the paved right shoulder. Witnesses told the Nevada Highway Patrol that Bodkin swerved in front of the two trucks and slammed on the brakes of her Lexus.

When Bodkin did that, Wray's motorcycle slammed into the rear of Marianne Reed's semi, skidded under the wheels and was dragged a short distance. The motorcycle caught fire.

Bodkin claimed that Reed had tried to run her off the road and called 911 from her cellular phone to complain.

Bodkin pleaded no contest in January to two gross misdemeanor conspiracy charges. Should she fail to follow the terms of her probation, she could receive a one-year jail term.

Wray's family has filed a wrongful death suit against Bodkin.
