Nearly $2 million in federal funding from the Department of Transportation has been secured for a proposed Southern Nevada magnetic-levitation train project.
The 42-mile rail linking Las Vegas and Primm is part of a high-speed train route which could eventually shuttle riders between Southern Nevada and Southern California.
The nearly 275-mile route would carry passengers between Anaheim, Calif. and Las Vegas, and is one of seven projects competing for the right to build a demonstration project for the nation's first magnetic-levitation train service. Each of the seven projects received grants for preconstruction planning through the Federal Highway Administration.
