About 650 Southwest Airlines employees in Las Vegas will be among more than 25,000 who will receive a record profit-sharing contribution announced by the company.
Employees will share $138 million, Southwest officials announced Monday. That amounts to about $3,525 for an employee who earned $25,000 this year.
Including the 1999 contribution, Southwest, has contributed more than $700 million to the plan, which now has a value in excess of $1.2 billion. Southwest launched the program in 1974, making it the first U.S. airline to offer such a program.
Employees are eligible to receive funds from the profit-sharing pool upon leaving the company or retirement.
The company announced that Nevada employees will share an estimated $2.6 million.
