Students win big in ‘wordy’ assay

In a word, Meadows School students were winners.
Students at Meadows School received high honors in the "In WordMasters Challenge," a national language arts competition -- students are asked to understand complex words and challenged to use those words to complete analogies expressing various kinds of relationships.
The Las Vegas area school's fourth graders tied for sixth place in the nation among 684 school teams. The sixth graders placed eighth in the nation among 475 teams and the eighth graders placed fourth in the nation among 304 teams.
Perfect scoring students include fourth graders Twila Brooke, Catherine D' Antonio and Jordan Kozmary; fifth grader Andrew Thomas; sixth graders Rebecca Sommer and Nolan Walsh; and eighth graders Monica Boateng, Shannon Corrigan, Isha Kalia, Shannon McLaughlin, Rosalie Miletich and Vanessa Stockton.
Other students who achieved outstanding results include fourth graders Spencer Gallagher, Kevin Kowalski, Kelsey Parsons, Ali Yuman, Kelly-Ann Fertitta, Evan Howard and Jeremy Selesner; sixth graders Vittorio Gonzalez, Samantha Reddy, Zoe Alterwitz, Amber Heifner, Leigh Selesner, Katherine Sonoda, Anita Vohra, Howard Watts III and Ashley Williams; seventh grader Christine Prato; and eighth graders Sandra Crossley, Christine Dadourian, Jeremee Peters and Tara Siefert.
