Longtime Las Vegan Jim Rogers envisions that the foundation he will head for the development of the Nevada State College at Henderson will take an active role not only in funding but also in academic development.
Rogers, an attorney and Southern Nevada resident of 49 years, confirmed that he accepted the offer to head the new school's foundation last week.
The Board of Regents is expected to approve the creation of the foundation at its April 6-7 meeting in Reno.
"The foundation will take a pretty broad role in development of the college," said Rogers, chairman of Sunbelt Communications Co., which has nine television stations, including KVBC Channel 3 in Las Vegas.
"We will certainly be involved in fund-raising and in designing the mission of the college," Rogers said.
Rogers said Richard Moore, founding president of the yet-to-be-built state college, told him he wants the foundation to be active in helping to determine the school's academic direction.
State funding for the college will be decided at the 2001 Legislature.
