Check cashing business robbed

Metro Police are looking for two men in connection with the armed robbery of a check cashing business near Pecos Road and Las Vegas Boulevard North Wednesday.

Just before 12:30 p.m. a gunman posing as a deliveryman entered the business, and after getting into the office at the back of store pulled out a semiautomatic handgun, police said.

An employee opened the safe and the man made off with an undisclosed amount of money. During the holdup the robber was in contact with another man via a radio, police said.

The gunman is described as Hispanic, about 35 years old, 5 feet, 4 inches tall, with a medium build, short black hair and brown eyes.

The other man is described as Hispanic, about 35 years old, 5 feet, 6 inches tall, 150 pounds with a slim to medium build.

Anyone with any information on this robbery is asked to call robbery detectives at 229-3591 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.

Man wanted in sexual assault

Metro Police are asking for the public's assistance in locating a man wanted in a sexual assault and robbery.

Johnny Ray Brown, 42, is wanted for the Tuesday kidnapping, beating and sexual assault of his stepdaughter, Lt. Tom Monahan said.

On Wednesday Brown is alleged to have robbed his previous place of employment, taking $600, Monahan said.

Brown is 5 feet, 10 inches tall, 155 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a purple "Subway Sandwich Shop" polo shirt and jeans and driving a white 1983 Cadillac Eldorado with Nevada license plate 478 JLS.

Anyone with information on Brown's whereabouts is asked to call police 229-3421 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.

Boy, 16, shot after car chase

A Metro Police officer who shot a 16-year-old boy, who is accused of trying to run over the officer, has been identified as John Zeh.

Zeh, an officer for seven years, shot Bryon Angulo in the leg Tuesday afternoon.

The teen is accused of driving a stolen sport utility vehicle, which was reported stolen earlier in the day. When it was spotted near the intersection of Washington Avenue and Pecos Road, the officers attempted to pull the vehicle over and a chase ensued, police said.

The driver ended up on Hidden Desert Way and the officers used their police car to try to block the teen in. Zeh got out of the police car to attempt to arrest Angulo. Police say Angulo attempted to run Zeh over with the truck and Zeh fired several shots.

Angulo was treated at University Medical Center and released to police, who charged him with attempted murder of a police officer, resisting arrest and possession of a stolen vehicle.

Cocktail waitress takes settlement

Basketball player Dennis Rodman has settled his lawsuit with a Las Vegas Hilton cocktail waitress who accused him of sexually assaulting her last spring.

Although the papers aren't expected to be signed until Monday, Las Vegas attorney John Peter Lee said his client, Connie Wilcox, is pleased with the resolution of the case.

Wilcox accused Rodman, 38, of grabbing the sides of her breasts and lifting her off the floor while she was serving him on April 19, 1999.

"She participated in the negotiations and the settlement and I can't tell you the terms, but I can tell you it was very much in her favor," Lee said.

Lee said he and Rodman's attorney, William Urga, signed a confidentiality agreement about the case.

Urga was unavailable for comment this morning.

Rodman had been scheduled to go to trial next week before U.S. District Judge Howard McKibben.

Lee said he believes there are still several other, similar lawsuits still pending against Rodman.
