Illinois casino will not appeal Board-imposed fine

Thursday, March 23, 2000 | 10:01 a.m.

The announcement by Casino Queen spokesman Ron O'Connor came Wednesday, a day after the Gaming Board voted 5-0 Tuesday to fine the Casino Queen, citing 15 incidents in which underage patrons boarded the riverboat. In one alleged case, a 15-year-old boy was allowed on the riverboat without being asked for identification, according to Gaming Board Administrator Sergio Acosta.

The casino admitted to problems and said it will attempt to prevent future underage gambling.

"Because we knew a situation was developing, we have begun a more concentrated training program for our safety people for catching fake IDs," said O'Connor.

In addition to verifying identification, Casino Queen security is now checking IDs of people who appear to be 30 or younger at the boat's entrance.

"We're treating it just like a tobacco product," O'Connor said. "If you look like you're 30, we're going to card you."
