With Opening Day a little over two weeks away, the Las Vegas Stars have landed a new play-by-play radio announcer.
Russ Langer, who spent the previous four seasons as the play-by-play announcer for the Albuquerque Dukes and is a 13-year veteran of baseball broadcasting, has been hired to call all of the Stars' 144 PCL games this season on KBAD-AM 920.
Langer replaces Jon Sandler, who resigned after eight years with the Stars to try to land a job announcing major league games. Las Vegas opens its season on April 6 at Calgary.
* The Community College of Southern Nevada baseball team improved its inaugural season record to 30-6 Tuesday by defeating Colorado Northwestern CC 9-2 and Bellevue (Wash.) CC 11-7 at Coyote Park in Henderson. Joe DiBetta and Joe Wagner were the hitting stars for the Coyotes. DiBetta was 3-for-5 and drove in five runs and Wagner hit a grand slam home run.
