Celtic performance featured at rec center
The city of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a performance of the Celtic group Colcannon 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Lorna J. Kesterson Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St., Henderson. Advance tickets are $3 for youth and seniors and $6 for adults. Call 565-2367.

Award-winning author reads for children
Lucha Corpi, a native of Jaltipan, Mexico, will be the guest speaker at 7 p.m. March 29 at the Sunrise Library, 5400 Harris Ave. Corpi, who recently published her first children's book "Where Fireflies Dance," is an award-winning poet and author of several adult mystery novels. Call 453-1104.
The Obers honored at Desert Inn event
Community leaders, D'Vorre and Hal Ober will be honored by the Jewish Community Center at a gala Saturday evening in the Desert Inn hotel-casino's ballroom. This event also supports the programs and services offered through the Jewish Community Center. Call 794-0090.
Men, women, children give for Lake Mead
Nearly 100 men, women and young people have volunteered to participate in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area's Great American Cleanup on Saturday at the Las Vegas Bay. Individuals, groups, schools, churches and businesses interested in participating should call Swann at 293-8985.
Paris casino houses gala for French wine, cuisine
A champagne reception and "The First Growth of Bordeaux" debut dinner 2000 will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Paris hotel-casino. The gala gourmet dinner will feature rare wines from France's Bordeaux region with specially prepared cuisine. Tickets are $1,000. For reservations, call Shelby Renner at 876-4500, Ext. 3252.
