Alan H. Benbow

Alan H. Benbow, 73, of North Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born March 20, 1926, in Wyandotte, Mich. A resident for 18 years, he was a retired salesman in advertising and a World War II Navy veteran.

Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Thelma Curry

Thelma Curry, 75, of Henderson died Monday in Henderson. She was born April 13, 1924, in Oklahoma. A resident for six months, she was a practical nurse.

She is survived by four sons, Glenn Curry of Oklahoma, Gary Curry and Gene Curry, both of Texas, and Gerald Curry of California; one daughter, Judy Staple of Fort Smith, Ark.; and two sisters, Edith Stafford of Henderson and Bevie Gilbert of Oklahoma.

Burial will be in Oklahoma. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Frances Dvorak Eckmann

Frances Dvorak Eckmann, 77, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born Oct. 23, 1922, in New York. A resident for 15 years, she was a telephone operator and former president of the Retired Officers Women's Club.

She is survived by her husband, Frederick; two sons, Lee Dotson of Las Vegas and Lyle Eckmann of Dallas; one daughter, Louise Strawderman of Virginia; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Christ Church Episcopal, 2000 Maryland Parkway. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Charles B. Fisher

Charles B. Fisher, 85, of Henderson died Saturday in Henderson. He was born Dec. 5, 1914, in Duchesne, Utah. A resident for 50 years, he was a retired jet engine mechanic, a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, Royal Neighbors, Senior Citizens of Henderson, a grand knight of the Knights of Columbus, past president of Fraternal Order of Eagles 2672 and past president of the Nellis Federal Credit Union.

He is survived by three daughters, Trudy Fisher, Charlotte Law and Julie Archibeque, all of Henderson; two sisters, Beth Prosser of Kingman, Ariz., and Stella Rasmussen of Belson, N.M.; 17 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Peter's Catholic Church, 204 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Burial will follow in Palm Memorial Park, Henderson.

The family suggests donations to the Nathan Adelson Hospice, 4141 S. Swenson St., Las Vegas, NV 89119.

Scott J. Garner Jr.

Scott J. Garner Jr., 14, of Henderson died Sunday. He was born Dec. 13, 1985, in Carrollton, Ga. A resident for seven years, he was a seventh grade student at Brown Junior High School.

He is survived by his father and stepmother, Scott J. and Shaoru Garner Sr. of Henderson; his mother and stepfather, Vicki and Douglas Gould of Las Vegas; two sisters, Kristine Harvey of Las Vegas and Melissa Harvey of Bakersfield, Calif.; one brother, Joseph Harvey of Bakersfield; and his step-grandparents, Fred and Mary Gould of Valrico, Fla., and Ching Fang Weng of Taipei, Taiwan.

Services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson. Burial will be in Palm Memorial Park, Henderson.

Josephine Marie Lane Gates

Josephine Marie Lane Gates, 78, of Henderson died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born July 30, 1921, in Indiana. A resident for three months, she was a head cook, worked on various committees for then-Mayor Richard Lugar, now senator from Indiana, and with former Sen. Birch Bayh and was president of the Haughville Community Council.

She is survived by three daughters, Marilyn Larsen and Vicki Lynee Gates-Brown, both of Henderson, and Terry Jo Gates of Las Vegas; two sisters, Margarie M. Young and Julia J. Dowdy, both of Indiana; two brothers, Isadore L. Lane and Norbert R. Lane, both of Indianapolis; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

No local services are scheduled. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

Charles A. Green Jr.

Charles A. Green Jr., 70, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born Feb. 2, 1930, in Saginaw, Mich. A resident for 21 years, he was a retired Air Force staff sergeant who served more than 20 years, a Korean War and Vietnam War veteran, an Army veteran for four years, a member of the U2 Pilot Association and an employee of the Postal Service.

He is survived by his wife, Marie; one daughter, Susan Mueller of Henderson; four sons, David Green, Dale Green and Jeffery Green, all of Las Vegas, and Paul Green of Bakersfield, Calif.; one sister, Mildred Green of Saginaw, Mich.; one brother, William Green of Florida; and one grandchild.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 9:30 a.m. services Thursday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Graveside services will follow at 11:30 a.m. Thursday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City.

Birdie Mable Harris

Birdie Mable Harris, 87, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local health care center. She was born March 11, 1913, in West Virginia. A resident for 14 years, she was a retired banking industry collector.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry L.; one son, Danny Joe Mullins, and one daughter, Lois L. David, both of Las Vegas; one brother, Wilson B. Mullins of Bridgeton, N.J.; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Helen Marie Hatcher

Helen Marie Hatcher, 62, of Las Vegas died Thursday in Las Vegas. She was born Dec. 27, 1937, in Sweet Home, Texas. A resident for 24 years, she was a retired civil service sales representative.

She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Hatcher and Jamila DePaul, both of Las Vegas; one sister, Hazel Backmon of San Angelo, Texas; four brothers, Louis Gardley and Manuel Gardley, both of San Angelo, William Gardley of Tacoma, Wash., and Cedell Gardley of Denver; and five grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-7 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be noon Thursday in Palm Chapel, Eastern. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park. Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling arrangements.

Georgi Kocharyan

Georgi Kocharyan, 73, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born June 25, 1926, in Armenia. A resident for one year, he was an electrical engineer.

Marian Knatler

Marian Knatler, 81, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born July 15, 1918, in Canada. A resident for 2 1/2 years, she was a school district restaurant manager.

She is survived by one son, David Andrew Jones, and one daughter, Kelly Brown, both of Las Vegas; one sister, Kay Speer of California; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Willis N. Mims

Willis N. Mims, 73, of North Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 17, 1926, in Abilene, Texas. A resident for 12 years, he owned and operated an auto parts store and was a World War II Air Force veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Eddress; three sons, Larry Mims of Maquon, Ill., Richard Mims of Reno and Randy Mims of Las Vegas; two daughters, Lana Kimoto and Marsha Goff, both of Las Vegas; one brother, Arthur Mims of San Diego; one sister, Eloise Barrett of San Antonio; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Violet Diane Neuberth

Violet Diane Neuberth, 73, of Las Vegas died Thursday in a local hospice. She was born July 13, 1926, in New York City. A resident for 35 years, she was a school music director for 35 years, a member of the Silver Mind Golf Club of Connecticut, Nutmeg Curling Club of Connecticut and was a poet laureate at Burdic College of New York.

She is survived by her foster brother, Bob Kroboth of Lake Havasu, Ariz.

Services will be 7 p.m. Friday in the annex of the Metropolitan Community Church of Las Vegas, 1140 Almond Tree Lane, No. 301. Valley Memorial Crematory, 745 W. Sunset Road, No. 16, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

Marcia Peters

Marcia Peters, 59, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born Dec. 30, 1940, in Sharon, Pa. A resident for five years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Terri Tyler, one son, Craig Peters, and one sister, Carol Johnson, all of Las Vegas; and four grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 5-7 p.m. today in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will follow in Paradise Memorial Gardens.

Vincent R. Rivera

Vincent R. Rivera, 29, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 16, 1970, in Douglas, Ariz. A resident for 28 years, he was a music composer.

He was preceded in death by one brother, William Alex Rivera.

He is survived by his parents, Billy G. and Ana C. Rivera, two sisters, Marisa G. Bermudez and Monica Silvas, and his girlfriend, Daniella Gerimia, all of Las Vegas.

Visitation is scheduled 4-8 p.m. Wednesday with a 6 p.m. rosary in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Bridget's Catholic Church, 220 N. 14 St. Burial will be private.

Catherine E. Rojas

Catherine E. Rojas, 79, of Henderson died Sunday in Henderson. She was born Nov. 28, 1920, in St. Louis. A resident for nine years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by four daughters, Rita Frasier of Nash, Texas, Rosalie Evans of Iowa, Racquel Besaw of Granite City, Ill., and Roberta Fenoglio of Henderson; four sons, Ron Rojas of Los Angeles, Richard Rojas of Henderson, Joseph Rojas of Granite City and Dr. R.A. Rojas of Charlotte, N.C.; one sister, Juanita Harrington of Ina, Ill.; two brothers, Frank Gomez of St. Louis and Carl Gomez of Fairmont City, Ill.; 23 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Carl Jacob Roseman

Carl Jacob Roseman, 89, of Boulder City died Friday in Boulder City. He was born Dec. 10, 1910, in Austria. A resident for 1 1/2 years, he was a tire manufacturing technician.

He is survived by one son, Carl Joseph Roseman of Boulder City; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Adela Ruiz Ross

Adela Ruiz Ross, 51, of Cuba died March 13 in Cuba. She was born April 19, 1948, in Cuba. A former Las Vegas resident for many years, she was a teacher's aide.

She is survived by two sons, Mario W. Rey Ruiz of Las Vegas and Wilbert Rey Ruiz of Cuba.

Services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson. Burial will be in Cuba.

Margaret V. Russell

Margaret V. Russell, 79, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. She was born Sept. 5, 1920, in Malone, Ky. A resident for seven years, she was a secretary at a steel mill.

She is survived by three sisters, Miriam Shutter and Lillian Greek, both of Las Vegas, and Frances Reeb of Irving, Calif.; and two brothers, James Lykins of Burnham, Ill., and Roger Lykins of Green Valley, Ariz.

Mary Schmidt

Mary Schmidt, 84, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 9, 1915, in Fresno, Calif. A resident for 33 years, she was a fine jewelry saleswoman, a member of Ladies of the Nile-El Giza and Ladies Philoptochos Society.

She is survived by her husband, Andrew F.; two daughters, Elaine Garrison and Janelle P. Salon, both of Las Vegas; three brothers, James Derdevanis of Alameda, Calif., Jeff Derdevanis of Oakland, Calif., and John Derdevanis of Walnut Creek, Calif.; one sister, Katherine Pakonon of Pleasant Hills, Calif.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 4 p.m. until an 8 p.m. rosary Wednesday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in St. John's Greek Orthodox Church, 5300 El Camino Road. Burial will follow in Paradise Memorial Gardens.
