LV businessman honored

Paul J. Christensen, the CEO of the Nevada Department of Transportation, has received the Emeritus Club Special Recognition Award for his lifetime of business and community service.
The award is given from the Emeritus Association of the Brigham Young University Alumni Association.
Christensen chaired the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority for 15 years and has served on the board of directors of the Greater Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce and the Retail Merchants Bureau.
As the son of jeweler M.J. Christensen, Christensen spent many years managing his father's business. He served on the Las Vegas City Council for more than 11 years and for 12 years was a Clark County commissioner. Water resources, infrastructure and recreation were his main focus.
He was honored with the Distinguished Nevadan Citation from the Board of Regents of the University of Nevada. In 1997 the Nevada Legislature awarded him the Outstanding Nevadan Award.
