Chronic window smasher arrested again

Tuesday, March 21, 2000 | 9:26 a.m.

On Friday, the 51-year-old Stolz struck again. This time, he threw a brick through the front door of a Reno police substation.

After the damage was done, police said Stolz walked in, put his hands behind his back and said, "I did it."

Officer Mark Markiewicz arrested Stolz on a misdemeanor charge of destruction of property. The officer had arrested Stolz once before, for smashing windows at the federal building in Reno eight years ago.

In a jailhouse interview Monday, Stolz told the Reno Gazette-Journal his window-smashing crusade is a quest to free John Mazzan, who was convicted and sentenced to die for killing the son of a Reno judge 21 years ago.

Mazzan's conviction was recently overturned by the Nevada Supreme Court. Prosecutors are deciding whether to retry the case.
