Program to honor Bonnie Schreck

The Nathan Adelson Hospice will host an open house to introduce the Bonnie Schreck Memorial Comfort Care Program 5-7 p.m. Friday at the hospice, 4141 Swenson St.

The Bonnie Schreck Memorial Comfort Care Program was established in February 1999 with funds donated in Schreck's memory. A longtime resident of Las Vegas, Schreck was known for her philanthropic efforts for local charities. For more information, call 733-0320.

Former chief of staff to speak

Retired Gen. Gordon Sullivan, the former Army chief of staff, will speak at a breakfast 7 a.m. Friday of the local chapter of the U.S. Army Association.

Cleanup project planned Saturday

Nearly 100 men, women and young people have volunteered for the Lake Mead National Recreation Area's Great American Cleanup 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Las Vegas Bay.

A free picnic will follow the event. Those interested in participating should call 293-8985. Those interested in the eco-dive should contact Nelson at 451-2992. For more information, call Bert Byers at 293-8947.

Henderson recreation schedules workshop

A scuba diving and bubblemaker workshop will be held 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the Lorin L. Williams Indoor Pool, 500 Palo Verde Drive, Henderson.

Enrollment is $10. Participants 8-17 years old must be accompanied by an adult. For more information call Henderson Parks and Recreation, 565-2123.

Variety of free hiking offered

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area offers free hikes and walks with reservations. Call 363-1922. Some coming programs:

Wee-Hikes: Aquatic Life -- This hike is less than a mile and filled with activities based on the age of participants. Bring water, snacks, sun screen and a hat.

Pocket of Kaibab: Blue Diamond Hill is the only exposure of Kaibab limestone in Red Rock Canyon. This 2 1/2 mile hike Friday will explore the unique formation that includes gypsum, marine fossils and pockets for nesting space for desert creatures.

Desert Poison -- Unique Ways to Die at Red Rock: One-hour program Friday about the legendary dwellers of the desert, from gila monsters to rattlesnakes, scorpions and spiders.

Getting to know Desert Plants: Two-mile moderate hike Saturday.

Indian food

A cooking workshop on the cuisine of India is being offered 6-9 p.m. Friday at the Lorna J. Kesterson Valley View Recreation Center, 500 Harris St., Henderson. Call 565-2121.
