Cashell to run for Washoe County Commissioner

"I'm looking forward to getting back to the political issues," Cashell told the Daily Sparks Tribune.
Cashell, general manager of the Ormsby House casino in Carson City and owner of the Alamo truck stop in Sparks, pledged to run a positive, issues-oriented campaign.
Among other things, he plans to focus on Galloway's vote against a slight sales tax increase to pay for Truckee River flood control and a downtown Reno train trench.
"I'm not running against Jim Galloway; I'm running for the (commission) seat and I want to make that clear," he said.
Cashell was Nevada's lieutenant governor from 1982 to 1986. He also is a former university regent.
Galloway, whose District 1 covers Incline Village and portions of the Reno area, earlier announced his intent to seek re-election.
He said Cashell may have many conflicts of interest with his casino background.
"In my opinion, he is a gaming candidate," he said. "He is a downtown-connected guy. I believe he has been recruited."
Cashell made his announcement to reporters on KSRN radio's "Nevada Matters" program.
