Plea deal made in killing of friend’s dad

Friday, March 17, 2000 | 12:02 p.m.

The last of three teenagers accused of robbing and shooting the father of one of the teens in June 1996 has entered a plea agreement.

Although Lamar Alexander, 19, did not admit guilt in the death of Terry Dixon, he did concede that the Clark County district attorney's office had enough evidence to convict him of first-degree murder.

Alexander could get between 10 years and life in prison when he is sentenced by District Judge John McGroarty May 2.

Authorities believe Alexander, Jeremy Kelly and Sean Dixon went to Terry Dixon's apartment with the intention of stealing his truck and ended up shooting and killing him.

Police found Terry Dixon, 45, lying in a pool of blood after neighbors reported hearing shots. Sean Dixon was arrested when he crashed into a ditch during a high-speed pursuit with police, who had been told the boy was seen leaving the scene of the crime in his father's pickup.

Sean Dixon, who was 16 at the time of the murder, is serving a life sentence for murder, and just last week Kelly, now 19, was given two parole-eligible life terms for murder with use of a deadly weapon. He was also sentenced to 24 to 96 months for conspiracy to commit murder and three 35- to 156-month sentences on burglary and robbery charges.

Prosecutors have said Kelly was the likely triggerman in the slaying.
