Letter: Vitale should study up
Friday, March 17, 2000 | 10:15 a.m.
Virginia? Please -- this team did nothing spectacular. They go 9-7 in league and beat nobody outside the conference other than Arizona State (big deal). Besides, Vitale has always kissed the ACC coaches' (butts) so much that he must have Preparation H Chapstick.
Notre Dame played an unbelievable schedule, but also went 4-6 down the stretch losing at Pitt and against Providence. Vanderbilt got an unfortunate snub because Arkansas won the conference tourney. Again, it went 4-6 down the stretch, four of those losses to teams that were under .500 in conference.
Every year good teams get left out. If Vitale had his way, we'd just invite the whole Big 10, Pac-10, ACC and SEC plus just four at-large teams that went undefeated, with the winner playing Duke (mandatory) for the title every year.
