Letter: Congratulatory letter missing
Friday, March 17, 2000 | 10:31 a.m.
On March 3, 2000, I was privileged along with approximately 80 other people to be sworn in as a U.S. citizen.
U.S. District Court Judge Lawrence R. Leavitt set a solemn, yet pleasantly relaxed tone for the proceedings, helped along by good-humored Ronald Klass of the Immigration and Naturalization Service.
Two new citizens spoke movingly on what the privilege of U.S. citizenship meant to them.
Letters of congratulations were sent to each of us from President Clinton, Sens. Richard Bryan and Harry Reid and Congresswoman Shelley Berkley. Disappointingly absent was any congratulatory letter from Nevada's Republican congressman, Jim Gibbons.
Are some of our elected representatives out of touch with the citizenry?
