High court rejects effort to remove Reno mayor, council members

The court upheld a decision by Washoe District Judge Brent Adams that Reno resident Guy Zewadski had no case.
Zewadski claimed Griffin and council members Dave Aiazzi, Pierre Hascheff, Tom Herndon and Bill Newberg voted improperly in 1998 when they approved a pay increase for future officeholders. He contended the city charter "requires any person holding an office for which compensation is increased or fixed to automatically forfeit his office."
Chief Deputy City Attorney Mike Melner called the suit illogical and moved to dismiss it. Melner said that under Zewadski's reading of the charter, nobody could ever get a raise of any kind under any circumstances.
