Trump drops Henderson luxury home development

Thursday, March 16, 2000 | 11:11 a.m.

Developer Donald Trump's plan to build a luxury residential community and golf course in Henderson has fallen through.

Trump announced plans in January for a 640-acre project consisting of no more than 600 lots on Pago Pago Street, about a mile south of the intersection of Horizon Ridge Parkway and Valle Verde Drive in the Southwest part of the city. Trump planned to partner in the deal with the Cheng family of Hong Kong, which has owned the land for close to 10 years.

The project fell through because of problems between Trump and his partners and did not involve the city of Henderson, assistant to the city manager Vicki Taylor said.

The Cheng family is still considering pursuing the site, said Robert Campbell of the Campbell Co., a public affairs consultant representing the Cheng family.

"This is a beautiful site and it will be developed by someone, and that could be the Cheng family, even without Mr. Trump," Campbell said.

Some speculate the Cheng family will develop the property with a prominent Nevada family.

The Greenspun family, which owns American Nevada Corp., is not the Nevada family referred to in that speculation, said American Nevada Corp. President Phil Peckman.

Peckman said American Nevada -- developer of Henderson's Green Valley -- has not been contacted about developing the site.

The Greenspun family also owns the Las Vegas Sun.
