Letter: True Dr. Laura becoming evident
Thursday, March 16, 2000 | 9:35 a.m.
In her apology, the doctor says she did not intend to "contribute in any way to an atmosphere of hate or intolerance. Regrettably some of the words I've used have hurt some people, and I am sorry for that." (Los Angeles Times, March 11)
On her popular radio show the "compassionate conservative" has referred to gays as "deviant" and "a biological error" and has endorsed the largely discredited "ex-gay" movement.
Perhaps the good "doctor's" change of heart has to do with her upcoming television show, as criticism has reached a boiling point from television insiders and gay groups.
Dr. Laura's "true colors" are apparent from this "apology." It's a face-saving effort to save her television show, but no matter what she does, her bigotry and mean-spirited views speak louder than anything.
