The time of year hunters have been waiting for is nearly upon us. The Nevada Division of Wildlife has announced that its applications and regulations brochures for Nevada's 2000 big-game hunts should be available within the next week or two.

NDOW license office supervisor Kathy Teligades said applications and regulations are scheduled to be placed in the mail today. Only hunters who applied for tags last year and have not changed their address will receive applications in the mail.

Sporting goods stores and NDOW offices in Las Vegas and Henderson will have applications and regulations brochures available next week. They should be available on NDOW's website by March 24. The website is www.state.nv/us/cnr/nvwildlife.

This year's big-game application deadline is Monday, April 17. Resident hunting licenses, which must be purchased in order to apply for tags, are available at most area sporting goods stores and NDOW offices at 4747 West Vegas Drive in Las Vegas and 744 South Racetrack Road in Henderson.

* NDOW NEEDS VOLUNTEERS: The Nevada Division of Wildlife is seeking volunteers to act as tour guides at its Lake Mead Hatchery and to assist with instructing fishing clinics that the agency provides to children and adults.

Clyde Parks, hatchery manager, said volunteers are needed to lead tours for school and other groups that are interested in visiting the facility, which is located near Boulder City. Volunteers will be provided with training by NDOW staff. To volunteer, contact Parks at 486-6889.

Training will also be provided to volunteer fishing instructors. To volunteer for this program, contact Ivy Baker at 486-5127, ext. 3863.

* RANGE SYMPOSIUM: Registration is being accepted for the Fourth National Shooting Range Symposium, June 4-6, 2000, in Phoenix. The symposium features sessions on how to make a range a community asset, as well as providing the latest information on attracting and keeping customers, employee management, business planning, marketing, design, range safety, environmental management and noise abatement. An extensive exhibit area offers an opportunity for shooting range suppliers to feature their latest products and services.

The Shooting Sports Summitt, sponsored by the National Shooting Sports Foundation, will be held immediately preceding the Symposium (May 31-June 3) and a Range Safety Officer Training Course, sponsored by the National Rifle Association, will be offered immediately after the symposium (June 7-8) at the same Phoenix location.

For the Range Symposium and the NRA Range Safety Officer Training, contact Hannah Kirchner, coordinator, at (812) 723-0088 or hannahk@kiva.net. For the NSSF's Shooting Sports Summit, contact Deb Moran at NSSF (203) 426-1320.

* BERKLEY BONUS BUCKS: Anglers have an opportunity to take home some extra cash when they win a sanctioned fishing tournament with Berkley FireLine on their reels.

Continuing through Nov. 1, anglers must win one of the 27 sanctioned tournament events and provide proof of purchase of Berkley's FireLine prior to winning the tournament.

For rules, entry form and a listing of sanctioned tournaments, check with your favorite tackle store retailer or request the information from Berkley Angler Services at (800) 237-5539 or log onto the Berkley website at www.berkley-fishing.com.
