Contribution to prep sports: Hughes is in his 11th year as the state's highest-ranking high school sports official, presiding over the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association. Among the NIAA's principal responsibilities are organizing and running all postseason tournaments, conducting the appeal process for all eligibility issues concerning athletes and overseeing all officials associations in the state. After years as a teacher, coach and athletic director in Northern Nevada, Hughes became the AD for Washoe County before moving into his current position. "The thing that I like most about it is I've gotten to know so many people in Nevada."
