Man charged in prostitute attacks wanted in Nevada on child sex charges
Tuesday, March 14, 2000 | 10:18 a.m.
Len John Allen, 35, has been charged in Nevada with four counts of sexual assault on a child younger than 16 and three counts of lewdness with a child younger than 14. The crimes allegedly occurred in 1997.
Deputy District Attorney Debra Vogt said the Nevada charges came to light as local police prepared for Allen's trial on the Oregon charges.
Vogt said Nevada officials have told her that they want to extradite Allen to Las Vegas to face the charges after he is tried in Lane County.
Circuit Judge Jack Billings immediately issued a fugitive warrant for Allen, which means Allen cannot be released from the Lane County Jail even if he is acquitted on the nine charges related to the Eugene attacks.
Eugene police arrested Allen on Jan. 19, about a year after prostitutes started coming forward saying a man had picked them up, driven them to a remote location, and attacked and raped them.
Allen is charged in Oregon with rape, sodomy, sexual abuse, attempted rape and unlawful sexual penetration.
His trial has been set for May 2. If convicted on all counts, he faces a mandatory minimum of 56 years in prison.
