High-tech labs boost UNR profile
Monday, March 13, 2000 | 11:07 a.m.
On Monday, UNR opened the Nevada Terawatt Facility in Stead, a facility with equipment capable of heating matter to a thousand times the surface of the sun.
Tuesday's ribbon cutting is for the James E. Rogers and Louis Wiener Jr. Bridge Structures Laboratory on the university's main campus which has the ability to simulate conditions of a massive earthquake.
University officials say the state-of-the-art facilities will continue to raise UNR's national research profile and have helped attract highly sought-after students and faculty members.
"These two facilities, in terms of helping our visibility, are major," UNR President Joe Crowley said. "They both have potential to bring millions of dollars in research to the university."
