Three J.C. Penney department stores in Las Vegas will remain open, even as two other stores in the Northern Nevada towns of Fallon and Winnemucca are being closed as part of a restructuring program.
The three Las Vegas stores employ a total of 750 people. "The Las Vegas stores are kept because they are meeting our criteria on financial and strategic standards," said Stephanie Brown, a J.C. Penney spokeswoman.
J.C. Penney, of Plano, Texas, announced Feb. 24 it will close up to 45 underperforming stores out of its 1,150 department stores nationwide by July 1.
Other Nevada stores remaining open are in Reno, Carson City, Ely and Elko.
