To give the community an opportunity to meet any of the animals currently available for adoption.
Sunday is the day for people who have been thinking about adopting a dog or cat but would rather take a walk in the park than visit a shelter.
Media Partners for Pets, which has helped find homes for more than 1,000 animals since forming three years ago, is having another adoption event Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at West Flamingo Park, on Flamingo Road between Jones Boulevard and Torrey Pines Drive next to Kenny Guinn Junior High School.
The local public radio station, KNPR 89.5-FM, will broadcast from the event until 1 p.m., with the show including coverage of a "Most Beautiful Pet Contest" that starts at noon. Radio station KKLZ 96.3-FM will pick up the coverage at 1, with its highlight being a pet look-alike contest starting at 2.
Other highlights of the day will include a Metro Police K-9 demonstration at 11 a.m. and performances at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. by "The Amazing Pit Bull Maddy," owned by Fred Hassem.
At a recent fund-raising murder-mystery dinner, Clark County issued Media Partners a proclamation for its exceptional work, saying that the group has raised the area adoption rate by 49 percent.
There will be 150 dogs and cats up for adoption, all from Dewey Animal Care Center and the Nevada SPCA. On hand will be veterinarians from one of the event's sponsors, Veterinary Centers of America.
All pets are welcome at the event, and the veterinarians will offer free consulting and low-cost vaccinations and micro-chipping. Also helping to sponsor the event is Petco, which works with Media Partners three Saturdays a month in adopting pets from its stores.
Media Partners now has a website -- mediapartnersforpets.com -- for people looking to learn more about the group, donate funds or to volunteer at adopting events.
