News show premieres Monday
Friday, March 10, 2000 | 11:19 a.m.
A new one-hour morning news magazine that will feature breaking news, information on current issues and upcoming Las Vegas community events will be launched 9 a.m. Monday on the Las Vegas 1 cable television channel.
DayONE Las Vegas, featuring Emmy award-winning journalist Nancy Byrne as anchor, will be a live, interactive show with up-to-the-minute weather and news on Cox Communications Channels 1 and 39.
The show is the third local news program launched by Las Vegas 1, the valley's first and only local 24-hour news cable channel.
A partnership of the Las Vegas Sun, Cox Communications and KLAS-TV Channel 8, Las Vegas 1 launched NewsONE at Nine on April 6, 1998, and the afternoon news magazine, Point of View Vegas, on July 12 last year.
The new morning show will feature news breaks from Channel 8, in-studio guests, phone-in conversations from viewers and contributing reports from Sun reporters.
"This area is ripe for this type of program," said Byrne, a television news veteran of 18 years who most recently was anchor for KLAS Eyewitness News Sunday Morning. As a Channel 8 reporter, she specialized in growth and education issues.
"The program not only deals with issues that affect us all, but also welcomes viewer participation," Byrne said.
Bob Stoldal, general manager of Las Vegas 1, said, "Whether it's gas prices or the search for a new school superintendent, DayONE Las Vegas will be on top of the story."
Stoldal said that during the Ted Binion murder trial of Sandy Murphy and Rick Tabish, DayONE will be reduced to 30 minutes and take viewers directly to the Clark County Courthouse for live coverage.
"In addition to highlights of the previous day's testimony, DayONE Las Vegas will feature daily briefings to background the case, including live reports from the courthouse.
