Five homes were damaged and 50 more had to be evacuated when a construction crew severed a 16-inch natural gas line late Wednesday afternoon.
The force of the accident broke windows in five homes and tiles were damaged.
No injuries were reported.
Traffic was snarled throughout the city during rush hour as authorities closed down a four-block area out of fear of a possible explosion.
