Gov. Guinn seeks answers about school remediation money
Thursday, March 9, 2000 | 12:29 p.m.
Guinn says three charter schools are in line for amounts roughly equal to the funding proposed for four public multischool districts in Humboldt, Lyon, Nye and Pershing counties.
"I want some answers on this," Guinn said Wednesday at a state Board of Examiners meeting.
The funds were provided by the state Legislature to improve performance of at-risk students doing poorly on basic skills tests.
The proposed allocation for next school year includes amounts ranging from $12,000 to $16,000 each for the four small rural school districts, and amounts ranging from $11,000 to $15,000 to each of three charter schools.
Two of the charter schools, I Can Do Anything High School and the Sierra Nevada Academy, are in Washoe County and are both recommended for $11,000. The Gateway Charter School is in Churchill County and is recommended for $14,754.
The recommendations will be considered by the Legislature's Interim Finance Committee on April 13.
