Gabelli increases stake in Tropicana operator

New York investor Mario Gabelli reported a sizable increase in his holdings in Phoenix-based Aztar Corp., the operator of the Tropicana hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip.
In a filing today with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Gabelli's funds reported control of 6.36 million Aztar shares, a 14.6 percent stake in the company.
The form indicated Gabelli increased his funds' stake in Aztar by 405,800 shares since Jan. 10, a 6.8 percent increase. The purchases, primarily through GAMCO Investors Inc., were at prices ranging from $8.50 to $10.31 per share.
