Couple gives birth at Wisconsin casino

Thursday, March 9, 2000 | 4:29 a.m.

Stacy Foy had gone into labor Wednesday morning and was on her way to a hospital with companion Travis Peterson when Foy said she realized the baby was coming.

"All the way over Travis was telling me that everything would be all right, that we'd make it, but by the time we got to the casino, I knew I was going to have the baby right then," Foy said.

The couple stopped at the casino to call an ambulance, but their son Noah Travis Peterson just wouldn't wait that long.

The infant was delivered at 8:20 a.m. by Bad River Game Warden John Lemieux, who does emergency medical technician training at Ashland's Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College. Security guard Archi Shinaway assisted Lemieux, who also serves as Bad River fire chief.

"It was very exciting, it was nothing we all expected," Peterson said. "I never expected to win that much at a casino."

Casino officials gave the new parents flowers, a weekend stay at the jacuzzi suite, meal coupons for their stay and even "It's a Boy" cigars.
