Philip Scott Lader will have to serve at least eight years before he is eligible for parole under the sentence imposed Tuesday by Washoe District Judge Jerry Polaha.
Deputy District Attorney Michael Mahaffey said Lader's DUI history dates back to 1989. Mahaffey noted that Lader was sentenced to prison twice before, in 1994 and 1996, for felony drunken driving.
During sentencing, Polaha told Lader the stiff penalty was necessary to protect the community.
