Savvy wine buy: Los Vascos Cabernet Sauvignon ‘97
Wednesday, March 8, 2000 | 8:59 a.m.
Chileans have been producing delicious red wines for centuries, but now, with the help of French technology and French oak, these low-priced wines are a better value than ever before. This wine is a collaborative effort from the famous Chateau Lafite in Bordeaux and Chilean growers. The grapes are from Chile, but the wine is aged in barrels imported from France. The result is a rich, balanced wine that tastes of berries and cedar, sold at a fraction of the price fetched by Bordeaux of comparable quality. Available at Spirits Plus, $7.99, and Nevada Wine Cellar, $6.89.
