Once embattled, Enterprise plan passes without remark

A once-contentious plan to annex 6,200 acres of Enterprise Township into the city of Henderson passed quietly Tuesday night.
The Henderson City Council approved 4-0 a street and land use plan for parts of Enterprise that could be annexed to the city by summer. Enterprise is located in an unincorporated area of Clark County in the southwestern section of the valley.
The annexation plan was designed primarily by city planners after months of meeting with residents, landowners and developers -- in an effort to pave the way for future growth in the area. Henderson Mayor Jim Gibson said after the vote that the area could be annexed as quickly as the next couple of months.
City officials estimate as many as 60,000 people could eventually live in the area, once it is fully developed.
In contrast to previous meetings on the South Enterprise/West Henderson plan, no residents spoke out Tuesday night.
"I think that we were able to ease residents' concerns about the plan," David Norris, a city land planner, said after the meeting. "The main concerns we heard from residents ... were about the street name changes, but they seem to be satisfied with them now."
The street name changes will include the renaming of Lake Mead Drive as Charles Henderson Parkway between Interstate 15 and Interstate 215, Norris said. The plan also calls for the realignment of the existing Maryland Parkway at Lake Mead Drive, while extending Maryland Parkway south of Lake Mead Drive and renaming it Paradise Road.
The 6,219 acres included in the plan are generally bounded by Cactus Road on the north, the Sloan interchange on I-15 on the south, Maryland Parkway on the east an Decatur Boulevard on the west.
Clark County officials last year agreed not to object to Henderson's annexation as long as the city and county worked together on transportation and other shared issues.
