The move was made after a November efficiency study of the department, Joann Frank, senior vice president of human resources, said Tuesday.
"The changes apply only to engineering and are designed to make it a more efficient department in line with its changed role due to completion of major construction projects," Franks said.
As part of its new role, she said the department's focus would be on preventative maintenance. Previously, the department was comprised of electricians, plumbers, rug installers, general mechanics and heating, ventilation and air conditioning technicians, Frank said.
Those laid off received severance packages and can apply for other positions at the casino, she said.
Overall, Foxwoods has about 6,000 employees.
