Smaller Sun debuts

There is something a little different about today's Las Vegas Sun, but you just can't put your finger on it.
Or maybe you can -- if your fingers are touching the margins.
They're wider.
It's not the printing gremlins at work. It's an early stage of bringing the Sun in line with what is fast becoming a national standard of 25 inches for a two-page spread, down from the current standard of 27 inches.
Today the Sun news sections are in what is called "narrower imaging" in preparation for the new newsprint width of 12 1/2 inches per page.
On March 13 the Sun classified advertising will be printed on the narrower paper. Two weeks later the entire Sun will be printed on the narrower pages.
The Sun is maintaining its six-column format per page, but the widths of the columns have been reduced by 7 percent.
The type, however, remains the same size.
