Two killed in robbery

Friday, March 3, 2000 | 2:51 a.m.

Two armored car employees were killed Friday afternoon in a robbery outside of a shopping center at the intersection of Stephanie and Sunset roads.

Police are looking for three suspects who fled the scene. One suspect is believed to be injured.

The shooting took place at 11:25 a.m. outside of the Ross Dress for Less at 649 Stephanie Road.

According to preliminary reports, one of the armored car security guards was shot by two men as he walked toward Ross to deliver a bag of cash.

In the ensuing gunfire the driver of the armored car was also shot.

The two robbery suspects grabbed the bag of money carried by the guard and also snatched a couple of bags from the armored car. They then fled the scene in a car driven by a third suspect.

Police discovered the getaway vehicle about a half-mile away. Inside the car was a large amount of blood, leading police to suspect that one of the armored car guards was able to wound one of the robbers.

The suspects are described as being male (white or Hispanic) with sandy hair, weighing around 180 pounds and about 5 feet 10 inches in height. Police believe the suspects are now in a dark-colored sports utility vehicle.

All valley police, California Highway Patrol, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, Utah police and local hospitals have been alerted to be on the look out for the suspects.
