Malpractice insurance rates to fall
Friday, March 3, 2000 | 10:50 a.m.
The Doctors' Company, one of the biggest writers of medical malpractice insurance in Nevada, is decreasing rates an average of 2.4 percent.
State Insurance Commissioner Alice Molasky-Arman said the drop was effective Feb. 1 for new policies and Wednesday for renewal policies.
While the average decline is 2.4 percent, the rate changes will vary. The largest decrease will be 15 percent for internal medicine specialists for everywhere in the state but in Clark County. In Southern Nevada, there will be no change for internal medicine physicians.
One category will get a rate increase. That's for plastic surgeons in Clark County, whose rates will increase by 10 percent.
The Doctors' Company insures about 500 physicians. Its last rate change was an increase of 8.7 percent in January 1999.
