The state attorney general's office Thursday closed its car insurance fraud case against Landon G. Cunningham, 30, of Las Vegas, who will head to Florida to begin serving a four-year sentence on a drug-trafficking charge.
Landon pleaded guilty to falsely collecting insurance benefits. He reported his 1997 GMC pickup had been stolen from a parking lot at the Meadows mall in March 1999.
Deputy Attorney General Gregory Hojnowski said an investigation revealed the truck had been impounded in Tijuana, Mexico, prior to the false report to Las Vegas investigators.
Cunningham was charged with two felonies, but the counts were reduced to a single gross misdemeanor. He has paid State Farm Insurance Co. full restitution of $1,575.
