Silver State Disposal Service has begun removing 100,000 cubic yards of waste from the old Sunrise landfill.
The waste is being trucked to the company's regional landfill at Apex, northeast of Las Vegas.
The disposal effort will take about two months to complete and cost $36 million. Silver State agreed to shoulder the cost in return for a contract extension from Clark County.
