Savvy wine buys: Luna Pinot Grigio ‘98
Wednesday, March 1, 2000 | 9:31 a.m.
Pinot Grigio is the Italian name for the well-known French varietal Pinot Gris. The grape is being grown in California with a vengeance as this lush, delicious wine demonstrates. The winery is owned by Michael Moon, president of Beringer. Winemaker John Kongsgaard, who is also the winemaker for Beringer, has a peerless reputation. This fruity Pinot Grigio comes close to duplicating the flavor of its counterpart from northeast Italy. Luna is a rich, mildly acidic wine that is also a robust 13 percent alcohol. Wrinkle your nose and you'll detect hints both of lime and anise. The wine is especially good with grilled fish.
Available at Spirits Plus, $16.79, and Lee's Discount Liquors, $16.99.
