Letter: McCain looks a lot better than Bush
Wednesday, March 1, 2000 | 9:45 a.m.
Pretty much I had my mind set that Al Gore would not make a bad president. I am impressed on how he has been handling himself. I have read Sen. McCain's book -- he is an honored military man and he comes from a background of family military men. And he is honor bound, so if the Republicans want to beat Al Gore in the next election, I would suggest that they look at McCain, not George W. Bush. I don't know what his leanings are; they say he's too liberal. Who could be more liberal than President Clinton? Of course he is a Democrat, but he has leaned over the fence a few times. So what if we have a Republican doing that. So what of the Republicans. That is why I am a Democrat.
I don't like the policies but I know one thing: McCain will bring some fire in this campaign. So he loses his temper, Clinton has been known to do this on more than one occasion. Clinton gets a flunking grade where morals are passed out. But I do not fault his policies, even if I disagree with some.
The media have been talking only that Republicans are not voting for McCain, and that his votes are coming from Democrats and independents, and not Republicans. So if you want the Democrats in office, keep on giving your votes to George W. Bush. He will not have a chance against Al Gore.
